In the annals of low-budget cinematic sleaze, incurable psychopaths abound. But how many of them are also incurable romantics? Red Toole’s that kinda guy – after decapitating a quartet of potheads, he skips home to deliver a basket full of body parts to his lovely wife Violet. Once the two have finished gnawing and chomping, she returns the favour with a gift of her own: a full serial-killer superhero outfit, complete with human-skin cape! Just what Red always wanted! It’s just for fun, of course, until the vile alien mastermind Dr. Nefarious kidnaps Violet for his own twisted purposes. And that’s not all the extraterrestrial evildoer has planned! With the Zombotron ray he’s developing, he’s scheming to transform the world’s population into his mindless zombie minions! Red Toole is soon off on a wild goose chase around the world, gathering clues from a mystical rasta in Pittsburgh, the amply endowed SuperInge in Sweden and even legendary rockabilly wild man Hasil Adkins himself, at his ramshackle backwoods sanctum. The sexually perverted (but secretly sensitive and thoughtful) Dr. Nefarious may think his domination of the world is inevitable, but hadn’t counted on one determined serial killer with a heart full of love!

Right from the get-go, when the late, great one-man-band Hasil Adkins (who passed away in 2005) starts things off with a delightfully incomprehensible prologue, you know that Die You Zombie Bastards! has something special that makes it stand out from all the other budget-challenged, psychotronic, rock ’n’ roll sci-fi slasher sexploitation monster mashes out there. Witty, wacky and wild, this little gem tempers its torrent of blood, guts and big, bouncing boobies with clever gags (witness the faux-Mexican film within the film), wise self-awareness and a whole lotta gee-shucks romance. And not only does it have Adkins and porn legend Jamie Gillis in the cast, it boasts music by Adkins, Phantom Creeps, the Voodoo Organist, Gimantis and none other than Paul Leary of the Butthole Surfers!
