Short Film Programs : Square Jaw Theatre
Unless youve been living in a Latverean Castle for the past few years, youre aware the U.S. box office has been taken over by comic and graphic novel adaptations. Every year the major studios dazzle us with the exploits of our childhood heroes. But do you need a multi-million dollar budget to bring these caped crusaders to the screen? Not if youre clever, talented and have a sense of humor as do the directors whose work comprise our program this year. A program where the square-jawed heroes do not take as much room, as they let the lovely ladies of the superhero world strut their own stuff. Catwoman, Power-Girl and Batwoman lead the way through a series of short films bringing us to an ambitious 40-minute piece that heralds the return of the comics worlds premiere super-heroine to the silver screen. (Also look for a surprise involving the very first Japanese "sentai" show to feature a colorful superhero fighting alongside a transforming giant robot. Can you guess who he is?)
