Performances artistiques, présentations multimédia et rencontres : Escandalos Productions & Volatile Works: Underground Film Collectives from Mexico and Quebec
Escandalos Productions is a Tijuana-based underground film collective founded by Aaron Soto, Cathy Alberich and Edgar Guerra. Their provocative visions have won then notoriety and praise by such figures as Mark Romanek, Guillermo del Toro and Rodrigo Gudiño. In 2006, the Museum of Contemporary arts in conjunction with the Rockefeller Foundation selected Soto’s work to play across the USA, which lead to feature articles in Rue Morgue magazine, Film threat and The Independent, turning Escandalos productions into the first underground sensation from Mexico.
Volatile Works is a five member autonomous film and media arts collective that has been active in Montréal, Québec since 2003. Their works embrace a range of mediums, genres, and spaces of intervention, with a marked affinity for lo-fi/DIY tactical forms of production and engagement. They have appeared in over 100 film and new media festivals in over 28 countries around the world. Practices include digital video, super-8, 16mm, animation, web art, sound, installations, DIY of all kinds. In 2005, Volatile Works was awarded the Special flEXiff Award for a program of five of their films at the First and the Last Experimental International Film Festival, West Sydney, Australia.
