After a mind-melting screening of his TOKYO GORE POLICE at Fantasia 2008, FX crazyman Yoshihiro Nishimura returns to Fantasia to present his latest film VAMPIRE GIRL VS. FRANKENSTEIN GIRL, a blood-soaked love triangle based on a manga by Shungiku Uchida and co-directed with Naoyuki Tomomatsu (STACY, ZOMBIE SELF DEFENSE FORCE, EAT THE SCHOOLGIRL).
The short story: Keiko must keep the love of her life, Mizushima, out of the clutches of her adversary, the new student Monami - aka Vampire Girl! Monami wants to turn Mizushima into a vampire so that they can live happily ever after as a hip and handsome vampire couple. But Keiko's not about to get pushed aside without a fight! Luckily, her father is a mad scientist and he turns her into a Frankenstein girl so that the two lovestruck estrogen-fuelled monstrosities can brutalize eachother in the most entertaining ways, all leading up to a final showdown atop Tokyo Tower!
Throw into the mix a wrist-cutting championship, JU-ON director Takashi Shimizu in a self-reflexive cameo lecturing on the merits of the Hollywood remake, and a girl-gang in blackface, and you've got an uncompromising satire that's as far from subtle as you can get. And since Yoshihiro Nishimura is not only a director, but also one of the most in-demand FX artists in Japan (he also did the FX for 4-hour festival favourite LOVE EXPOSURE), you can expect that the sanguinous (and often hilarious) explosions of violence and viscera and will exceed anything you've ever seen - after all, he has his own film TOKYO GORE POLICE to top, and how exactly do you do that?!
