Michael Dougherty's charming ode to the mystery of every horror fan’s favourite holiday (based on his own short film SEASON'S GREETINGS) is an absolute joy from beginning to end – with enough scares, laughs and gleeful FX to transport viewers back to the 80s heyday of pulp horror.
With boundless energy and an obvious love of classic horror anthologies like CREEPSHOW or OFFSPRING (1987), Dougherty's TRICK 'R TREAT takes place over the course of one ill-fated Halloween night, with four interweaving stories with an assortment of characters (including Anna Paquin and the great Brian Cox!) whose lives will all be changed by one creepy kid with a soon-to-be-iconic mask.
Michael Dougherty earned his chops scriptwriting for big budget superhero films X2 and SUPERMAN RETURNS (and he’s currently slated to pen the long-awaited resurrection of legendary Chinese-American detective CHARLIE CHAN), but with TRICK ‘R TREAT he forgoes the flash in favour of atmosphere and the result is a loving tribute to the horror films that shaped him.
TRICK 'R TREAT plays on Wednesday July 29th at 7:30pm in the Hall Theatre. More info, including description, images, trailer, website and more on the film page HERE.
The film will be preceded by Mike Roush's celebrated 5-minute short film THE HIDDEN LIFE OF THE BURROWING OWL More info, including description, images, trailer, website and more on the film page HERE.
