“A dystopian sci-fi animation that will leave its audience stunned” - Rachel Cheung, SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST
The thing so many fear most has happened. A nuclear device has been detonated in Sarajevo, triggering a chain of panic that hardens the privileged democracies into surveillance states, and shatters more vulnerable lands with widespread ethnic strife and mass murder. Stalking through the worst of it is elite intelligence agent Captain Clavis Shepherd, his every move tracked by his handlers in Washington. On an operation overseen by the President himself, Shepherd’s team infiltrates the compound of a Georgian war criminal, seeking a mysterious American target. Things don’t go as planned, though, leaving both the warlord and another agent dead. John Paul, the American they’re seeking, is still at large – and somehow at the heart of the genocidal fury engulfing the world.
After EMPIRE OF CORPSES, and HARMONY (seen at Fantasia last year), here comes the final film in a trilogy of stand-alone anime adaptations of novels by author Project Itoh, aka Satoshi Ito, who passed away from cancer in 2009. Although his writing career was tragically brief, his handful of books won numerous literary awards, and tremendous acclaim from the SF-reading public. A celebrated icon in Japan, Ito had a dark and brooding vision of the near future that was global, one in which geopolitics, technology, and stark morality intersect sharply and a human soul is something all too easily discarded. The GENOCIDAL ORGAN anime reflects that vision, a taut techno-thriller with terrifying implications.
