Allumette is a VR film very loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s short story “The Little Match Girl”. This short story was a literary tale of social justice, with Andersen highlighting the unjust plight of orphans across Europe in the 19th century. Allumette is intimate on an emotional scale – focusing on the love between a mother and her child as well as the sacrifices that people are willing to make for the greater good.

The title «Nadar» is derived from the French photographer and inventor of the same name – a close friend of science fiction writer Jules Verne. Nadar served as a real life inspiration for some of the fictional characters developed by the author. Prefaced with Gene Roddenberry’s quote «We are on a journey to keep an appointment with whatever we are» the work intends to capture the quintessential spirit of science fiction by building an arch from the primordial natural shape of a sea shell to the fictitious scenario of a humanly terraformed comet. “Nadar” features music by ambient artists AES Dana and MIKTEK of the french Ultimae Label and includes original dance and acting performances by Liliana Ferri and Jan Möllmer of Folkwang Dance Ensemble.
