Ahab and The Dark
Join us after the screening on August 18 at 11:05pm EDT for a live Q&A with Director Perry Blackshear as well as actors Evan Dumouchel, Libby Ewing and MacLeod Andrews.
Just beyond the shadows, in the corner of your vision, just out of sight, his yellow eyes lurk. Down and out, and grasping to stay above water, Wilson Shaw (Evan Dumouchel) and his sister Daphne (Libby Ewing) struggle to make it in the world. When a supernatural figure appears to be behind their history of misfortune, Wilson must rethink his family, his place in the world, and what he knows to be real. Wilson is forced to muster all his strength, to face off against forces he does not fully understand, in a desperate bid for redemption, for his sister and himself.
Following the critically acclaimed THEY LOOK LIKE PEOPLE in 2015, Perry Blackshear is back at Fantasia with the world premiere of WHEN I CONSUME YOU! Blackshear is in full form with this raw and stripped-down film that is palpable, powerful, and emotionally heartfelt. Masterfully woven throughout the film is the folkloric and supernatural, elevating the highly intimate narrative and brilliant performances, making the film riveting and mysterious. Reuniting with Evan Dumouchel, MacLeod Andrews, and Margaret Ying Drake, the core acting team of his previous films THEY LOOK LIKE PEOPLE and THE SIREN (2019), along with new team member Libby Ewing, the result is a comfort and ease that is quickly established at the onset, drawing you in. Blackshear and his team then dole out powerful blows of tragedy, devastation, and personal struggle, all the while a demonic figure looms, just out of focus, yellow eyes burning in the background. – Justin Langlois
