It’s 1986, and Chuck Steel is the best goddamn cop on the force. Even if his methods aren’t always by the book, his long-suffering boss, Captain Jack Schitt, knows he can always count on Steel to clean up the streets of L.A. Now, the Governor has decided to reduce the opening hours for clubs and bars. The new law triggers an inexplicable spate of high-profile disappearances across the city, and even a maverick, renegade, loose-cannon, lone-wolf cop on the edge like Chuck Steel might not be able to stop it. All the disappearances have one thing in common – a crime scene covered in blood, but with no sign of the victim. This case is complex, but Steel finally gets a lead when one of the victims manages to escape the malefactors. When Steel goes to interview him at the hospital, he is confronted by crazed old man named Abraham Van Rental. He warns Steel that an evil curse is about to hit the city of Los Angeles – the plague of the trampires, a hybrid of vampire and hobo!

Four years after slapping the Fantasia audience silly with his short film CHUCK STEEL: RAGING BALLS OF STEEL JUSTICE, Michael Mort returns to the festival with his feature debut, CHUCK STEEL: NIGHT OF THE TRAMPIRES. Fifteen minutes of Chuck Steel’s stop-motion mayhem was just enough to hook us and make us beg for more. Mort answers our prayers and delivers a bigger, ballsier, more ballistic adventure starring his famous police officer. This feature is exactly what we are asking for – a pure homage to the ’80s action films that we love so much. With Chuck Steel, Mort brings us back to that world, and make sure we have a hell of a ride. – Éric Boisvert
